SOF Creative Problem Solving- Tools and Techniques
Description
SOF professionals are persistently immersed in a stream of volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) compound security dilemmas which require the dynamic application of a flexible, creative thinking tool-set, skill-set and mind-set. Accordingly, this 5-day residential course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to apply the science of creative thinking via a 4-stage creative process methodology against a SOF-relevant problem set to gain experience translating theory into actionable outcomes. Furthermore, students will develop skills to facilitate team-based approaches to creative problem solving in the face of dynamic situations and SOF-peculiar scenarios that require the application of innovative thinking in order to create value in the form of novel strategies / concepts / effects, and/or to drive organizational adaptation and evolution. Total time commitment: 5-day residential course with pre-work (distance learning)
Audience
Personnel assigned to USSOCOM, its components, TSOCs, and those units and agencies in direct support of USSOCOM. Others will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Grades: E-5 to E9 and O-1 to O-10 and Government Civilian equivalents. *24 seats available per iteration
Remarks
Students must have completed at least one of the following options to be eligible to participate in SOC 4470: 1) Student has previously completed SOC 1470 or 2) Student has previously completed SOC 3470 or 3) If prospective student has not completed either of the courses above (SOC 1470 or SOC 3470) he/she may still earn an exemption to participate (though preference is given to graduates of the courses listed above and admission decisions for students requesting exemptions are at the discretion of the course director). To earn an exemption, a prospective student must apply / request via direct email to the course director, and complete BOTH sections (A & B) of the SOC 4470 pre-work bundle. Sections A & B of the pre-work bundle are expected to take approximately 8hrs of effort and details on the process, content, and steps to complete.
Materials
Students will have access to all required materials through JSOU’s e-campus.
Accreditation
JSOU is currently an accredited educational institution accredited through the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET) - a national accrediting agency recognized by the Department of Education. This course has not yet been submitted for accreditation.
