Description

SDIA-V is a six-week distance learning course requiring a student commitment of 6-8 hours per week. The course provides advanced military design education for students interested in organizational change, innovation, creativity and disruptive thinking for SOF applications in complex emergent contexts. Students build on their requisite knowledge and apply additional theory towards designing in teams. Students will learn and employ wide range of multi-disciplinary design concepts in a flexible, adaptive methodology for fostering reflective practitioners and change agents across the SOCOM enterprise. Utilizing a JSOU’s e-campus, online collaboration software, and a teleconferencing platform, students will asynchronously read, view, and listen to design content and subsequently collaborate in a live team design project, and present to the design sponsor, faculty, and peers their artifacts and progress. The course requires a student commitment of the following: • Self-paced distance learning 3-5 hours per week • 2 weekly live faculty-facilitated group design collaboration sessions 2hrs per week • 1 weekly Design Sponsor engagement 1 hour per week (Fridays Weeks 2-6 only)

Audience

Primary: Those action officers from USSOCOM enterprise who may participate in design teams or individually wish to apply design thinking towards complex challenges. Secondary: Any military or government professional requiring methods and techniques for critical and disruptive thinking, creativity, and fostering organizational change.
